My branch of the White family can be traced back to the borders of Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire around Aston Rowant, Towersey, and Sydenham. My family's earliest traced direct ancestor is Charles White who was living in Towersey when he married Jane Stevens nee Cooper . He later settled in Chalford, Aston Rowant and most of his decendants were either farmers or agricultural labourers until the enclosures and poverty forced them to move London or to emigrate to Australia during the mid-19th Century. Census, estate records and tithe records for Chalford have been transcribed, together with indexes for overseers of the poor and churchwardens of Aston Rowant.

I am also adding to my database other White families that lived in the area that my be of interest. With one or two small exceptions, all White baptisms and most marriages in between 1800-1860 are included. Others wil be added in time. Also the White line originating from Robert White and Anne Flight is included, which should be of interest to Australian Whites descended from the John White and Jane Young settlers.
