William Clark lived as an in-pensioner in Chelsea Hospital from 1927 until his death in 1949. He is known to have fought in the Boer War and named his son after Edgar Redvers Buller, the famous general of the time. However, the rest of his service history remains a mystery since all documents, with the possible exception of the 1891 census where there is a William Henry Clark described as an army reservist, give his occupation as a train shunter or tram conductor.
