George, as he was know to his family, was a very quiet and reserved man, with a good sense of humour. He enjoyed playing the piano and gained a lot of pleasure from having a small wager on the ?gee gees? as he called them. This was never for monetary gain as the sums were small, usually sixpence or a shilling, but he got a lot of enjoyment from studying form and having the ability to pick a winner. George began his apprenticeship on the 13th February 1921 to become an Engineer Fitter and Turner, which he completed on 22nd March 1926.
